Adam Schefter released on Twitter this morning that the Dallas Cowboys will sign S Will Allen. Details of the deal are not yet known, and Allen will not actually be able to sign until Dallas makes some cap space (similar to the Durant situation yesterday).
Allen came to Valley Ranch on Monday along with his new teammate LB Justin Durant. Both men were reported to have taken physicals, and now both will be in the conversation as starting defensive players.
Allen is a 9 year veteran, having most recently played with the Pittsburgh Steelers as Troy Polamalu's backup. The 30 year old will likely compete with 2nd year man Matt Johnson for the starting spot, along with whoever else the team brings in. Allen is familiar with new Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin's scheme, having played under him in Tampa Bay from 2004 through 2008.
It's a bit of a surprise to see Dallas make this move. The team cut former S Gerald Sensabaugh for a lack of creating turnovers, but Allen has historically made even less of an impact in that part of the game. He has only 4 career interceptions, but none since the 2005 season.
What're your thoughts on Allen? Will he be the starting Safety come September? Sound off!Tags: Dallas, Dallas Cowboys, Football, Justin Durant, NFL, Will allen
