With the bright shining luster of free agency behind us, and the impending NFL Draft not yet here, news is slow in the NFL. Luckily for us, we're Dallas Cowboys fans. There's always news! And in the year 2013, there is always a microphone around to catch it. Let's catch up on some notable quotes from the last week or two from our heros.
Make 'em hate you, Dez
Demarcus Ware on Tony Romo's new contract extension (per ESPN): "I feel like you know everybody is deserving of whatever is given to them. But at the end of the day, to me, it's put up or shut up. I'm just being straight up honest with you. Get out there and be productive, and that's with any player. Whatever they get, they're deserving of it. You just got to get out there and play, and I know he can be and will be the quarterback who will take us to the next level."
Demarcus Ware on being 8-8 the past two seasons (ESPN): "We will not be .500. We will not be .500 like the last two years we’ve been, I can tell you that."
Jason Garrett on Dwayne Harris cementing himself as the number 3 receiver: "Dwayne did a really good job really growing throughout last season… he showed us as the season wore on that he could make some game-changing plays as a returner. He got some more opportunities on offense and took advantage of those, and like a lot of guys he really has grown up over the course of his couple years in the league."
Dez Bryant on the best part of being a Dallas Cowboy (Dallas News): "…I feel like the greatest thing about being on the Cowboys [is] people love to hate the Cowboys. That makes you work 10 times harder. They put the big target on us or whatever, and I'm speaking for myself, it doesn't bother me…[I] like that kind of pressure. It makes us want to work hard and makes you want to do what you want to do to get to that big game."
So there you have it. A bit surprising to see Demarcus Ware popping up in the quote-sheet this time around. The usually quiet star has clearly taken on a more vocal role, something that this fan base has wanted to see for a long time. The best quote clearly belongs to Bryant, though. The kid's confidence is off the charts, and it's great to see him identify with something that Dallas fans have long known is true; everyone loves to hate us, and we love it.
